What is a Cavamalt? A Cav-A-Malt is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Maltese.
They can also be called Cavamalt, Malt-A-Lier, and Maltalier. Alternatively, you can also refer to this crossbreed as a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Maltese mix.
Cavaliers are ranked at number 19 in the American Kennel Club’s list of most popular breeds in the USA.
Although the Maltese can’t beat the Cavalier in the popularity stakes, they’re considered a hypoallergenic breed. Cav-A-Malt can prove a popular crossbreed due to the possibility of their coat being hypoallergenic
The AKC recommends the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Maltese are both breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club and United Kennel Club. However, they’re recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club, Designer Dogs Kennel Club, Dog Registry of America, and International Designer Canine Registry.
Cav-A-Malt is usually quite a small dog breed given the size of the parents. The Maltalier mix will usually grow to between 10 and 13 inches tall, while they can be around 10 to 13 pounds in weight.
Just like their appearance, every Cav-A-Malt could have a slightly different temperament. Given the Cavalier and Maltese breeds make excellent companion dogs, it’s no surprise that a Cav-A-Malt can make affectionate and loyal pets. They’ve got relatively low energy so Maltaliers is an excellent choice for dog lovers who perhaps don’t have the ability or time to go for a long walk every day. Cav-A-Malt tends to be a sociable dog that likes to meet new people and new dogs. Having said that, these mixed dogs will benefit from socialization training from a young age.
Cav-A-Malts are relatively small dogs so it’s unlikely they’ll make excellent guard dogs. However, they could function well as watchdogs, alerting their owners to a friend or stranger approaching the front door.
If you’re looking for a family pet, Cav-A-Malts are a crossbreed that you could consider. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Maltese dogs are friendly, laidback, and upbeat canine companions. However, if you’re planning to introduce a Maltalier into a family setting with young children, you’ll need to educate your kids on how to handle these small dogs. We don’t recommend leaving a dog unsupervised with a child.
